Japan's Foreign Ministry: Jojo's Issue is Regrettable

Kazuo Kodama, a Japanese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, issued a statement on Friday that expressed regret for Muslims' feelings that were hurt by images deemed inappropriate in the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure anime. The original manga's Part 3 ("Stardust Crusaders," pictured at right) has a scene in which the main villain, Dio, vowed to kill the main character Jōtarō Kujō while looking at illegible book pages. The staff of the anime version unknowingly inserted reproductions of pages from the Qur'an, the main religious text of Islam, in the corresponding scene of the sixth anime episode ("The Mist of Vengeance").

Kodama added that is important to understand other religions and cultures to ensure that similar incidents do not occur again. While Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has often employed manga and anime to foster a positive image of Japan, it has had to address negative overseas impressions of these cultural exports much less frequently.

Muslims are very strange people for me to understand. Everything is offensive to them even if you didn't mean to be offensive in the first place. Even after you apologize to some of them for doing something "inappropriate" they still foster so much unnessecary anger over it. So strange.

They've had protests over here with banners 'behead those who insult Islam'. Go figure.

If I remember rightly, it was over a cartoon in a paper that lightly poked fun at them.

WTF JOJO is not popular outside of japan. It is a niche book if anything.

Also, the newspaper never originally had any of the images they claimed were in it, those were later put into another piece by hate-mongering s**t-stirrers and claimed as the real thing. That is what they were p**sed off about.

*Going by memory, was a while ago*

Well, I'm glad you sure haven't lost your sarcasm...

"Behead those who would insult Kira!"
"Eh, don't bother, he'll kill them himself."

They should be glad that they had another follower of the Qur'an, even if said follower couldn't read the text.

Where'd the post you're referring to actually go? = |
I can't think of any reason why I'd have deleted it, nor any valid reason why a mod would have.

Can you bring it back from the dead, Wise?
